That is a bit weird. I have 2 such modules and they seem to be wired high side to a common Vin: Vin-- mOhm -- ChannelX. I bought a new one from a separate source, i'll check if it is different. There may be a misunderstanding here, about the schematic. Post a Comment. INA, weird wiring. September 21, Continuing my "smart" battery charger, i've finally received the INA module. So you can measure the voltage supplied to the load, and the current going through it.
Now, let's have a look at the module, look at the top of the following pic, where the sense connectors are.Manuscript under consideration after reviewers assigned
Yes, all the IN- pins are connected to ground, so it is a bottom current only sensor. Additionally, the - side of the shunts are ALSO connected to the ground, no only the connectors. Unknown July 14, at AM. Most of the "fun" of a 3D printer is to tinker with it. My faithful anycubic i3 mega was on the old side, the custom touchscreen makes it nearly impossible to modify as far as UI go. So let's swap the boards. I bought a SKR 1. Most of the wiring is simple enough, hint : Z1 is the right one, Z2 is the left one.
But one thing that had me scratch my head for a bit is the 6 pins ribbon. Read more. September 24, You 'll need to cut some tracks, i did it with a dremel and i'm not very handy, so you'll do better. Mine looks like this after the operation ugly i know : Be wary of the small track on the left connector that leads to the left side of channel3 resistor.
I cut it while isolating the right pad.You can use it both with a Grove I2C Connector and standard pin headers. Sometimes, you want to measure lots of things in your system. A great example is when you have a solar powered system. To figure out what is going on in your solar system dynamically, you need to measure the current and voltage for the Solar Cells, Batteries and the Load computer all at the same time. The conventional way to do.Chundari jaipur se mangwai mp3
To use the INA, you connect the I2C bus up to an Arduino or Raspberry Pi using the Grove connector or the Pin headers and then connect the loads that you want to measure as shown in the block diagram below.
See the wiring lists for the Arduino and Raspberry Pi in the specification above. There are significant differences in the chip itself and especially in the software needed. A similar test can be run on the Arduino. Thank you in advance Marcelo. All share the same ground.

Ditto for the solar panel and Arduino power in. By the way, SunAirPlus does all this wiring for your and is a charge controller to boot. I am all but signed up to buy a couple to prototype with, but I need to know the limits of voltage and current. Awesome creation! Thank you! I have put many libraries into the correct folder and used them.
Try moving the INA library my itself into the libraries directory. Not under the Quad power folder.

Send me an email and I will send you a screen shot. I suggest that you download the Arduino IDE 1. Close the folder and start the IDE. I have Arduino 1.
Just realized what the problem is, in your library there is an examples folder. In the examples folder, you put the example sketch. The problem is that in order for the example script to be found in the example pull down folder, the sketch has to be in a folder with the name of the script and that is missing. When I inserted the folder with the script name with the script insidethen the script was visible from the examples pull down menu. Will this measure current bidirectionally for a given load?
If one of the loads is a battery, depending on whether it is charging or discharging the current will change direction.
It seems like this should be fine with this circuit, correct? Thanks for the fast answer to my previous question! I ordered one of these instead of a couple of AdaFruit INA breakout boards for monitoring my solar project. I had a few questions about the 2A limit listed in the specs. Is this based on where the ADC saturates or limited by trace sizes and such on the breakout board? My solar project uses about a 60watt 12V panel connected to a lead acid battery with regulator.
My application uses fairly intermittent power and so my panel usually is only trickle charging at a max of 0. My load is 1. The boards seemed to have a 3A range and an easy modification to put a different shunt resistor in. Is there any documentation available?Any help is appreciated greatly.
RWBwe meet again Mr. You wan to keep the code in those sections, delete the if and the else and associated code. In the example, you can remove besides removing Wire. After that, give compiling a go! Another Arduino to Particle port completed. It took me a min and some playing around to decode your instructions but I figured it out and learned a few things in the process which is good. This is my first ever project using i2c so please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but would I need to make any changes to this code to make it work with the Electron vs the photon which you originally wrote it for?
This is what I see when the INA is powered on and they should be communicating I plug and unplug peripherals from all of the inputs that I think the INA should be monitoring, but absolutely nothing changes :. I only mention that because I noticed that if I power off the board that the INA is on, it changes and reports like this:.
Hoping this sparks an idea for someone who might know what is going on here! Yes, besides adding some cell connect logic at the beginning. I am going to go test this on the scope now and figure out what is going on haha! ColinVTa picture of your setup would be good.
How you connect and power things can make or break your setup. EDIT: I still intend on updating this, however a urgent issue came up elsewhere so this has been sidelined for the moment!
Update: It was faulty hardware! If they update me with what the issue was with the previous hardware, I will come back and update here!
Need help measuring voltage 10 V. Another Arduino to Particle port completed It took me a min and some playing around to decode your instructions but I figured it out and learned a few things in the process which is good. The code is working and I have tested it so this is good news.

I think this is safer when you have higher currents and according to this bigger wires. Response from SwitchDoc Labs Nov. Excellent piece of kit I bought one INA break-out board as part of a Kickstarter project so that I could monitor the individual power consumption of three Raspberry Pis. The break-out board is supplied complete with male headers and is ready to use.
It arrived well packaged and is a good quality board — no sharp edges and the soldering is sound. The PCB itself is labelled on the component side but if you use the board on a breadboard then the labelling will be underneath so you might want to make your own label to avoid mis-connections.
I have subsequently bought three more INA boards and I am building managed power supplies with configurable trip currents, liquid crystal displays and remote management using a web browser. You can see my INA project page at noveldevices.

Fixing the INA breakout board. What size fuse do i need for motorcycle air
So I tried to fix the board by cutting the traces connecting one side of the 3 shunt resistors to the POW pin, then I cut all the traces connecting the GND input pins to ground then I resoldered some wires between each shunt and the input pins.
I tried the 3 channels and now they work independently with 3 independent power rails with connected grounds. Re: Fixing the INA breakout board. Excellent work. Im fiddling with the same modules atm. Created an account just to say thanks. Am facing some problem with these modules, I have connected a resistor 1K resistor to it for measuring the current through it, but in serial monitor I get only 1.

Sorry for lack of my knowledge on how to use the forum. Here is the link, please help me. Here is the Link. Quote from: MorganS on Jul 23,pm. Thanks Rendoh.Voltage and current monitoring. The INA or rather one of the boards based around it, allows for a single power input and up to 3 power outputs —each monitoring voltage and current and all done via I2c. You can almost think of this as a triple INA — the bidirectional current power monitor.
The difference here is a saving in cost — saving in number of devices you need to address and saving in size. I bought this one from AliExpress but you can get them on Ebay etc. And from there, for a while it all started to go downhill. From my stabilised power supply I put out 5.
Here is the output with no load:. I took a large 2 ohm resistor — which you might reasonably expect to take 2. I put it across my supply — and sure enough — 2. After I recovered from burning my thumb and allowing the resistors time to cool off, I repeated the experiment more briefly and nothing had changed. The input voltage was down to 4. I had attached the load to output 3 which was showing an output of 4.
Something very wrong there… my power supply was saying 2. I checked the library header — it said that the default resistor was 0. Do remember though that any such system involving a 0. There is no way around this…. So consider 0. So that is 1 amp going through the 0. Off-load you lose nothing… so your super stable supply, assuming a variable load, how has a 0. Decide if that is important or not before using these boards.
At 2 amps it gets worse, 0. It may be that the INA is better given that you are able to replace the 0. Of course the above was just a starting point. My fault for not looking more carefully and thank you so much, Neil for that information.
The video should give an idea of how far this has gone. Hi Pete, very interesting. Thanks in advance Wolfgang. Do you have that code posted somewhere? If you want to modify the module with three independent readings, you can have three independent power sources with different voltages.Check out this video of a woman who can make five reusable bags from one T-shirt.
